Metallica plays ‘Black’ album at the Download festival, Black Sabbath to perform Sunday
With Metallica headlining Saturday night at the Download Festival this year, the band entertained the crowd by playing their entire Black album, but in reverse order. They also stayed on stage after their scheduled two hours was over for an extra half an hour.
Biffy Clyro, a Scottish rock band, who were scheduled to play prior to Metallica’s performance, paid tribute to the heavy metal band from Los Angeles during their set who were present on the main stage as well.
Biffy Clyro bassist James Johnston, in expressing his admiration for Metallica has this to say: “It’s a real privilege and an honour to share a stage with a band like Metallica who have opened up this world of music to such a huge amount of people throughout the world.”
Apart from the great reception that these two bands enjoyed at the Download Festival, Jack Black’s Tenacious D as well as Steel Panther also performed on the main stage while Slipknot’s Corey Taylor received an award for best performance at the Download Festival for the past 10 years.
Prior to receiving the award, that he was surprised to receive, Corey Taylor performed an acoustic set consisting of popular hits such as AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long”, U2’s “With or Without You” and Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb”.
You Me at Six, LostAlone and Kids in Glass Houses were some of the other bands that performed on the second stage. It should also come as no surprise that the recently re-formed Black Sabbath are the main headliners on Sunday night as the Download Festival celebrated its tenth anniversary.
